Certificate Course in Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (CCGDM)


“This Course is Accredited by the South Asian Federation of Endocrine Societies - SAFES (2014 – 16) &Recognized by the International Diabetes Federation - IDF (2015 – 17)” (A joint certificate course between Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) & Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Education Academy (DMDEA), Chennai)


Objective of course:
This course aims to serve two main objectives:
•         To develop core skills and need based competencies in Primary care Physicians, Obstetricians and Gynaecologists for the practice of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus.
•         To establish their networks with existing specialized diabetes care centers, eminent Obstetricians and Gynaecologists for improving patient outcomes in Gestational Diabetes Mellitus.

Background of course:
The Certificate Course in Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (CCGDM) was conceived by PHFI in 2012 in partnership with DMDEA, Chennai, and supported by an educational grant provided by Johnson and Johnson Medical India. In its journey of three years since 2012 it has built a strong network of 110 faculty, 15 national experts, 25 observers and trained more than 2724 primary care physicians and obstetrics & gynaecologists in the field of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus screening, diagnosis and management.  After completing 3 cycles of this course we will initiate the 4th cycle of CCGDM from August 2016 onwards.

Description of course:
CCGDM is designed as once - a- month executive training course for Primary Care Physicians and Obs/ Gynae with four study modules spread over 4 months (August 2016- November 2016) which will be conducted on designated Sunday in various Regional Training Centres all across India (details will be intimated shortly). The class ratio will be 2:15 with 2 Regional Faculty (1 Diabetologist / Endocrinologist and 1 Obstetrician/ Gynecologist) for each regional training centre.

Recognitions & Accreditations:
In pursuit of excellence in Endocrine Care and Education, South Asian Federation of Endocrine Societies (SAFES) has given accreditation and International Diabetes Federation (IDF) has given recognition to CCGDM for excellence in providing diabetes education to healthcare professionals. Gujarat Government and Madhya Pradesh Government has also accepted the CCGDM Model to train 50 Medical Officers and 100 Medical Officers respectively under National Health Mission.
CCGDM received the FICCI Healthcare Excellence Award in Skill Development Category and PHD Chamber Award for Excellence in Skill Development in the year 2015.

The Minimum Eligibility for admission in course would be:
• MS/MD/DNB in OBS/GYN or DGO or
• MD/DNB Medicine or Family Medicine or
• Medical graduate (MBBS) with minimum 3 years of clinical experience.
