How do I motivate my staff? That question seems to baffle most business leaders. Motivating people seems to be more elusive than almost any other aspect of management. For that reason there are countless articles and classes devoted to it.

But, in reality, the strongest business leaders don't motivate their employees.

That's right, as a business leader, your job is not to motivate. That may sound blasphemous to you. After all, the leadership paradigm that evolved in the late 20th century tirelessly promoted the belief that motivating the workforce was essential to great leadership.

WASHINGTON, February 9, 2011 – A new World Bank report warns that South Asian countries are facing a health crisis with rising rates of heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and other noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), which disproportionately affect poor families, with possible side effects of disability and premature death, and worsening poverty as people pay for medical treatment out of their own pockets.According to the new report―Capitalizing on the Demographic Transition: Tackling Noncommunicable Diseases in South Asia―heart disease in the region is now the leading cause of death in adults aged 15-69, and South Asians suffer their first heart attacks six years earlier than other groups worldwide.

India's food inflation rises to 9.01%

It continues to reign high despite the RBI hiking key interest rates nine times in the past 14 months

New Delhi: India's food inflation for the week ended May 28 rose sharply by almost a percentage to 9.01 per cent as prices of essential items like fruits, meat, milk and onions increased, official data showed on Thursday. Food inflation had dipped to 8.06 per cent the week before. The persistently high inflation is expected to result in another rate hike from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) when it conducts a mid-quarterly review of the monetary policy on June 16. Inflation has continued to reign high despite the RBI hiking key interest rates nine times in the past 14 months.

Increasing access to health workers in remote and rural areas

Globally, approximately one half of the population lives in rural areas, but less than 38% of the nurses and less than 25% of the physicians work there. While getting and keeping health workers in rural and remote areas is a challenge for all countries, the situation is worse in the 57 countries that have an absolute shortage of health workers.

Mobile phones & possible adverse effects on health

The electromagnetic fields produced by mobile phones are classified as possibly carcinogenic to humans. Studies are ongoing to more fully assess potential long-term effects of mobile phone use. (as per WHO post on web).
